Welcome to the Florida Data Director Council’s (FDDC) Training and Mentoring Wiki

The FDDC is a working forum for county data directors, key data users from Florida county Democratic Executive Committees, the Florida Democratic Party, and its affiliated organizations. The goal of the FDDC and of this training wiki is to help you turn data into action to maximize the vote for Democrats!

This wiki is a library of “how to” documents showing you basic and more advanced ways to reach voters and conduct campaigns to get Democrats elected up and down the ballot. Training materials include tutorials, Step-by-Step Guides, and videos. These are available to supplement individual and group training we provide.

You must be a registered authorized FDDC member to access the training material on this website.

Materials on this site are organized by Categories:

1) How-to Guides are step by step instructions that range from collecting voter information, curating lists (creating segments); and communicating with specific objectives (to “Get Out the Vote”; register voters; enroll in Vote by Mail, help voters where, when and how to vote e.g. precinct finders and creating slate cards). Tasks are steps within “campaigns” which are roadmaps with strategies, an integration of tools, and timelines to maximize the democratic vote. Tasks are also data analysis like measuring performance of campaigns, understanding dynamic voter status and voter demographics (VAT and VoterScope).

Many times multiple tools are used and coordinated to accomplish an objective. The How-to guides outlines this coordination and tasks involved. This section has conceptual descriptions – from objective to detailed steps.

2) Tools are online and desktop programs to conduct tasks. They include commercial systems like Votebuilder (VAN), Scale-to-Win and Mobilize; and FDDC developed tools like Voter Analysis Tools (VAT), EMS (our texting platform), and our emailing platform (FES). Our primary focus is FDDC developed tools but we also support the FDP provided tools, supplementing the resources provided by the commercial vendors.

Different tools can be used to accomplish the same task. However, each vendor has their own unique process. This section details the process used for each of our tools and describes the step by step mechanics of using FES, VAT, EMS and VoterScope.

3) The Resource list is a set of links to helpful external resources. This include information provided by the Florida Democratic Party, Supervisor of Elections (by county), NGPVAN (provider of VoteBuilder) and Scale to Win.

4) Future Election Dates and Deadlines for upcoming elections. In addition to primary and general election dates, this section provides the windows of opportunity for registering to vote, enrolling in Vote-by-Mail, and early voting.
