Phone Banks Pros and Cons of Leaving a Message

Print / Download Version

PROS FOR LEAVING A MESSAGE

1. Informs the voter of your message when they clear voicemail.

2. Leaves a number where they can call you back.

3. A Left Message canvass status excludes the voter from being dialed again in the same phone bank. This reduces the number of times the voter is called and the number of calls where phone bankers get voicemail.

CONS FOR LEAVING A MESSAGE

1. Do not leave a message if the phone bank is set up to call all numbers in a voter’s queue or to call others residing at the same address.

2. Has potential for the voter receiving multiple messages from the Democratic Party and campaigns. This effect can be reduced by not leaving a message but assigning a Left Message canvass status.

3. If the voter would have answered instead of letting the call go to voicemail if they were near the phone, we miss the possibility of speaking with the voter if the number is redialed later.

PROS FOR SKIPPING OR ASSIGNING A STATUS SUCH AS “NOT HOME

1. The number remains in the phone bank and may be successfully redialed.

2. The voter receives fewer messages from the Democratic party and campaigns and may be more receptive when we finally reach them.

CONS FOR SKIPPING OR ASSIGNING A STATUS SUCH AS NOT HOME

1. You don’t get the Pros for leaving a message.
